“Life is available only in the present moment.”
~Thich Nhat Hanh

I know I want help, but I'm nervous and I've had a bad experience with counseling before.  Should I try again?

Yes.  Finding the right clinician is one of the most important aspects of effective therapy.  Maybe you haven't tried counseling yet and are nervous.  Or maybe you went as a kid and felt forced into talking.  Whatever the reason, most of us are nervous whenever we are looking for a new therapist.  I firmly believe that you should feel comfortable in the presence of your therapist.  The more comfortable you feel, the more ready and willing you are to seek change.  There are many great therapists in the Watertown area, and we will make sure you get connected to your best fit.

Do you take insurance?

Yes.  We accept Husky and Anthem/ BCBS, out-of-network benefits, and self-pay.  Some groups and wellness programs are cash only.

What are your fees?

The initial intake and assessment is 60-90 minutes and cost $150.  Individual, couples, and family counseling sessions are 45-60 minutes and cost $125.

What is the consult call?

Making the decision to seek help is one of the most difficult decisions to make.  It can be nerve wracking to make that first phone call.  When you contact Lotus Counseling, you will be asked a few questions about the services you are looking for.  We will discuss your insurance and/or self-pay fees.  We will talk about the services we offer and we will explore our schedules.  You will have a chance to ask any questions and share/chat for a few minutes to make sure you feel comfortable.  Lotus Counseling will provide recommendations regarding level of care, services, and best-fit clinician. We will then book you for an intake appointment.

Do you offer a sliding scale and/or super-bills?

Yes.  A sliding scale is available on an as-needed basis.  There are several scholarship slots available for counseling and other wellness programs.  If you are using out-of-network benefits, you will be provided with a super-bill, which you then submit to your insurance for reimbursement.

I don't know if I have a co-pay and/or mental health coverage.   Can I still see you?

Yes.  During our initial phone consult, we will discuss your insurance coverage and/or self-pay fees.  Guidance will be provided regarding calling your insurance company.

What should I bring to my first appointment?

Most importantly, an open mind.  Second, an open heart.  And third, your insurance card and driver's license.  If you are a legal guardian of a child appointed by the court, you must bring documentation.

What is the youngest age child you've worked with?

We have clinicians that see children as young as 2 years old .  Children ages 2-5 can benefit greatly from counseling.  There is a lot of play, a lot of energy, and a lot of story-telling/role-modeling/experiential learning.  When working with children below the age of 13, we always incorporate an element of parent counseling as well.  This will look different for each family we work with.

It seems like you work a lot with kids and teenagers.  Do you see adults also?

Yes.  Lotus Counseling specializes in healing and trauma counseling across all ages.  There is a dire lack of providers that specialize in children and adolescents, and we are very passionate about that age group because we believe that the earlier healing occurs, the less it will effect you throughout your life.  That being said, we welcome people of all ages and all walks of life at our practice.
