Intake session and assessment
During the intake session and assessment, you will meet with your counselor and begin to build a therapeutic relationship. You will decide how much information you'd like to share, you will talk about your goals in seeking counseling, and you will learn about the different services available at Lotus Counseling.
Individual Counseling- Your counselor will work with you one-on-one in a safe and nurturing environment to help you meet your goals. Traditional concepts such as CBT (changing your thoughts) will be blended with more holistic beliefs such as mindfulness, meditation, and yoga.
Trauma Counseling- Lotus Counseling offers several interventions geared specifically toward those who have experienced trauma in their lives. Children, adolescents, and adults can benefit from Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) to promote understanding, resilience, and healing.
Family Counseling- Often times, when a family member has experienced trauma, the whole family feels a sense of confusion, sadness, and distrust. Family Counseling can be especially helpful to rebuild and strengthen the bond between all family members.
Art Therapy- Art Therapy is a form of psychotherapy involving the utilization of art materials over traditional talk therapy techniques. Art therapist are trained as traditional talk therapists as well as the extra, intensive skills needed to diagnose, asses, and treat clients utilizing art interventions. Regardless of someones struggles art is used to learn new coping skills, create a safe space and serve as a "second language" between the client a qualified art therapist.
Sand Tray- Sand tray is a form of expressive therapy that utilizes a sand tray, specific therapeutic grade sand and figures to aid in the process of working through a multitude of issues including past trauma, familial issues and abuse/neglect. This type of therapy is often used with children, but can be applied to adults, teens, couples, families, and groups as well.
Play Therapy- The Association of Play Therapy defines play therapy as "the systematic use of a theoretical model to establish an interpersonal process wherein trained play therapists use the therapeutic powers of play to help clients prevent or resolve psychosocial difficulties and achieve optimal growth and development." More simply put, child play therapy is a way of being with the child that honors their unique developmental level and looks for ways of helping in the “language” of the child – play. Licensed mental health professionals therapeutically use play to help their clients, most often children ages three to 12 years, to better express themselves and resolve their problems. Eating Disorder Treatment- At Lotus we provide comprehensive eating disorder treatment that utilizes Health at Every Size and Intuitive Eating to aid clients in developing a positive relationship with food an their bodies. In eating disorder treatment the therapists works with a dietitian and eating disorder trained doctors to ensure the clients safety, health and well being.
